Heather's Gardens, based in Maidstone Kent, creates an individual and stunning design for each client, reflecting their lifestyle, taste and budget. A series of face-to-face consultations ensures that the client's wishes are interpreted sympathetically to produce a beautiful garden. The design process takes several weeks and usually leads to the next stages, garden construction and planting, for which separate estimates are provided.

"We saw Heather Ritter's work at the Chelsea Flower Show and based on what we saw hired her to work on our St John's Wood garden. Heather did not have much land to work with but turned our 30' x 20' garden into a beautiful oasis in the city, with creative decking, hardscape, plantings and even a small pond. We got so much use out of that garden whilst we lived there and when we sold the house the garden was an important feature for potential buyers. We used Heather again for our slightly larger garden in Hampstead, and were delighted with her work again. The costs were reasonable, the work professional and on-budget, and the result fantastic. I would not consider anyone except Heather Ritter for our garden design work."

Garden designers recognise that plants are the very essence of a garden, creating structure and reinforcing the mood or style within the design. Creating a planting plan can be harder than drawing up the layout plan because planting is dynamic, changing from day to day and year to year. Good plant knowledge, an understanding of the plants' requirements in terms of growing conditions, and appreciation of their design qualities are all needed to create successful planting schemes.

Before Planting

" I first met Heather through a mutual friend when a large part of our garden was grassed and uneven. For this area she designed the shape for the beds and to fill them came up with a delightful range of planting that has flourished and transformed the area.

Since those days I have found that not only will Heather create wonderful planted areas from scratch but will make brilliant suggestions for developing existing problematic areas in the garden and will respond to my SOS's for advice on plants for specific areas and solutions for problems that may have developed.

Although she has enabled my confidence to grow I depend on Heather for ongoing discussions about the performance of the garden at different times of the year and she will not hesitate to come and help with gardening tasks if needed.
